Apple iPad Advert Released
Monday, March 8th, 2010
The first advert for the Apple iPad was shown in the USA during the TV coverage of the Oscars. The advert is also available on the Apple web site, USA version presumably because the advert includes the date April 3rd at the end which is the date of the iPad launch in the USA only.

iPad Coming April 3rd In The USA
Friday, March 5th, 2010
Apple’s web site (USA version) is showing that the iPad will be available from 3rd April with pre orders being taken from 12th March. This is not what was expected to happen as it is not only 66 days after the January launch event at which Steve Jobs claimed it would be launched in 60 days but 3rd April is also a Saturday which is most unusual for Apple product launches. The UK version of the Apple web site is not showing a similar announcement but still claims the WiFi version will ship in late March. I think this is highly unlikely given the US announcement. So it looks like as with the original iPhone US customers will be first to experience the iPad product. Apple still have not announced a price for the UK versions of the iPad.
Update:
The UK version of the Apple web site now says that the iPad will be available late April.

iPad Shipping Late March in UK.
Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010
Today the UK Apple iPad page says the iPad will ship later this month:
- “Wi-Fi models shipping in late March.
- 3G models shipping in April.
- UK pricing to be announced.”
This addition to the Apple web site tallies with an article on examiner.com that claims it has information from an Apple store employee that training will begin around the 10th March followed by commercials on the 15th March and public launch on Friday 26th March.
The date of 26th March seems highly likely it is 58 days after the announcement on January 27th where Steve Jobs claimed the WiFi version would ship in 60 days. To wait exactly 60 days would mean shipping on a Sunday so the 26th is the last working day without going over target. Apple has previously used Fridays to launch iPhones.

Will the iPad Offer Printer Support.
Thursday, February 25th, 2010
With the launch of the iPad imminent I have heard no mention of whether printer support will be built in. I do not expect to be able to plug a USB printer directly into the iPad unless the advertised photo connection kit will double as an external USB port although I feel this is unlikely. I would like to be able to print to network attached or shared printers over a wireless network though. This would seem sensible as Apple also prepares to launch the iPad version of the iWork applications, Pages, Keynote and Numbers that could all warrant the use of a printer. Otherwise users of these apps would have to sync the documents back to a computer in order to print them. This could be particularly fiddly if the user does not have the desktop versions of these apps or is using windows where the desktop versions are not even available. This would presumably be possible using one of the existing iPhone or iPod touch third party printing applications available, but an integrated solution would be so much slicker.
