Many have been tracking their iPads as they made the way through the carriers networks (UPS and TNT) from Foxconn in China. Many forums have been full of comments second guessing when iPads might arrive, and passing on information from the many phone calls made to Apple and the courier companies. Now they are going quiet apart from the short messages announcing arrival, as new iPad owners finally get their hands on the long awaited device.

The order process claims that the iPad will be delivered by 28th May. The pricing structure for the UK is as follows. A range of accessories is also available including Camera Connection kit, VGA adapter, additional power supply and  standard Dock all for £25 each, case for £30 and dock with Keyboard for £55.

Wi-Fi:

  • 16 GB = £429
  • 32 GB = £499
  • 64 GB = £599

Wi-Fi + 3G:

  • 16 GB = £529
  • 32 GB = £599
  • 64 GB = £699

Today’s change also says that Pre-orders will begin on 10th May so I suspect that Apple may actually stick to the date of late May this time. I hope that as Apple continues to grow this is not the first signs of them turning into a more ‘Microsoft’ like company. There is still no details of the UK iPad pricing.

Still no information on when the product will ship in other countries including the UK or how much it will cost. At the moment the online Apple Store is showing the usual “We’ll be back soon.” notice that we see when new products and major changes are being made, this is presumably in readiness for the iPad being available to pre-order.

The advert is also available on the Apple web site, USA version presumably because the advert includes the date April 3rd at the end which is the date of the iPad launch in the USA only.

This is not what was expected to happen as it is not only 66 days after the January launch event at which Steve Jobs claimed it would be launched in 60 days but 3rd April is also a Saturday which is most unusual for Apple product launches. The UK version of the Apple web site is not showing a similar announcement but still claims the WiFi version will ship in late March. I think this is highly unlikely given the US announcement. So it looks like as with the original iPhone  US customers will be first to experience the iPad product. Apple still have not announced a price for the UK versions of the iPad.

  • “Wi-Fi models shipping in late March.
  • 3G models shipping in April.
  • UK pricing to be announced.”

This addition to the Apple web site tallies with an article on examiner.com that claims it has information from an Apple store employee that training will begin around the 10th March followed by commercials on the 15th March and public launch on Friday 26th March.

The date of 26th March seems highly likely  it is 58 days after the announcement on January 27th where Steve Jobs claimed the WiFi version would ship in 60 days. To wait exactly 60 days would mean shipping on a Sunday so the 26th is the last working day without going over target. Apple has previously used Fridays to launch iPhones.
